Why We Advocate for Maryland Offshore Wind The 2011 MD Offshore Wind Legislation lacked 2 votes in the Md Senate Finance Committee. See CCAN Blog on "Heroes and Villains" Who Killed the Bill? Here. Advocates Pledge to Fight Again in 2012 - press release here.Ongoing canvassing for Md Offshore Wind throughout summer 2011 in Baltimore, Prince George and Montgomery Counties (in districts with possible swing votes for bill) - Volunteer! Contact Keith@chesapeakeclimate.org June 2011 Update - 6 CCIHC folks attended a MD Offshore Wind Training at JHU in Baltimore on May 22, 2011 See picture below. Since then, one of us has
already been out canvassing for Offshore Wind door to door in Montgomery County . There
will be activity through the summer, and Town Hall Meetings in the
Fall! Wind turbines deployed offshore could deliver large amounts of
pollution-free electricity at a stable price – a bargain-rate insurance
policy against unpredictable spikes in the cost of electricity and
against the serious prospect of global warming. And assure 1000's of jobs for Marylanders. Offshore wind, as a
local resource, can also reduce the need for Maryland to develop new
power transmission lines to import electricity from coal-fired power
plants in Pennsylvania or West Virginia.
In 2011 the CCIHC Advocacy Subcommittee was very active in supporting H.B. 1054/S.B. 861 - The MD Offshore Wind Energy Act THANK YOU Delegates Liz Bobo and Frank Turner for Co-Sponsoring this Bill!
